HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES
Since our first foray into Australian Censorship we have added some other topics and have received quite a lot of suggestions for others .
There are many subjects which could be included here . But we will have to stay focused on matters which relate to our geographic area of the Pacific , including the environment , as this ultimately affects every living creature . In Australia there continues to be a move towards the " bottom line " without adequate concern for effects upon some marginal groups , especially the traditional owners of our land , the aborigines . Health , education and the social " safety net " are areas that have recently declined . Australia has a lot to offer and short sighted policies seem almost daily to take more away . Until recently Australia had an exceptional human rights record judged by contemporary standards . Australia still is one of the better places on the planet to live . We have little time for present Australian Government polices in many areas . Australia is not a violent country but again this is changing , we suspect because of a little too much Hollywood and violence in the media . It has become trivialised . Normal human compassion is getting harder to find . We strongly oppose violence in the general community directed towards women , children and minorities . Most of these acts are committed by so called men . UNITED NATIONS CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD
Individuals have rights and responsibilities , but also deserve equal recognition . Most have heard of Tiger Woods , but who is Karrie Webb ? This is a brief outline of what will be here in the future . We have a lot to say about the Bush Administration in this area .
